FAQ common questions

What is the SL16 slimline integral blind?

The SL16 is a Venetian integral blind that sits between the panes of glass in the cavity of a double or triple glazed unit. With narrower than usual slats, it is suitable for use in the 16mm cavities of 24mm double glazed units which are commonly used in composite doors, vertical sash windows and many older window and door frames.

Can I fit SL16 integral blinds but keep my existing window and door frames?

As the SL16 integral blind is suitable for use in 24mm double glazed units, it is ideal for retrofitting into existing frames. As long as your existing window and door frames are in good condition and will accommodate a double glazed unit with a thickness of 24mm, the SL16 should be compatible.

Why is a slimline integral blind different to a standard integral blind?

All the other options in the Uni-Blinds range of integral blinds are designed for today’s more highly insulated windows and doors which generally use 28mm double glazed units with a 20mm cavity. Hence why most Venetian integral blinds are formed using 12mm wide slats to fit neatly within this cavity. The SL16 is purpose-designed for those windows and doors that do not accommodate a 28mm sealed unit because the slats are slightly narrower at just 10mm.

Which colours are available for the SL16 slim integral blind?

Nine colours are available for the SL16: White, Beige, Silver, Black, Agate Grey, Cream, Anthracite, Grey and Metallic Silver. The headrail of the SL16, as well as the side-guide for the slider controlled version and pull-cord mechanism of the cord operated system, are available in four colours to complement these aesthetically.

How easy is it to install the SL16 integral blind?

Fitting the SL16 integral blind is largely no different from installing a standard double glazed unit, providing you follow some simple guidelines relating to how the blind is transported, stored and handled. The slider or pull-cord control systems are easy to mount onto the face of the glass and connect to the blind unit inside the cavity through magnetism making this addition installation step hassle-free once you know how to do it.

Why is the SL16 suitable for enhanced security windows and doors?

The latest window and door security standards are leading many installers to recommend a double glazed unit which features a thicker 6.8mm laminated outer pane. Combine this with a 4mm inner pane of glass, and the cavity is around 17mm wide – this would not be wide enough for the standard 12mm Venetian integral blind slats, but the narrower 10mm slats of the SL16 fit comfortably.

What’s the lead time on the SL16 integral blind?

The SL16 integral blind is exclusively available in the UK from Morley Glass and every unit is made to order. As with all Uni-Blinds systems, the SL16 can normally be delivered to customers within 10-12 working days when ordered by the weekly order cut-off of 10am on Thursdays.

What are the largest and smallest IGUs I can have for the SL16 slimline integral blind?

The maximum and minimum sizes for the SL16 vary according to the control system and how wide you need the IGU to be. We refer to this as its feasibility.

So, where you have an IGU with a width between 300-370mm, the maximum height is 1000mm for the SL16S slider controlled blind and 1500mm for the SL16C cord operated.

Wider IGUs between 371mm and 1200mm can go to a maximum height of 2200mm for both the SL16S and SL16C. The minimum IGU size possible is 300mm wide x 500mm high, which applies to both control systems.

What styles of blinds are available for the SL16?

The SL16 is only available as a Venetian blind. But with nine slat colours to choose from, it can complement all styles of interior décor to offer a stylish finish for any type of window or door.

How often does the SL16 integral blind need to be cleaned?

As the main blind unit, including the slats and the cords, is fully encapsulated within the sealed double glazed unit, it will never attract dust or become dirty over the lifetime of the IGU. That means the only cleaning that is required is a routine wipe of the slider or cord mechanism on the face of the glass.
